Houtou is a traditional Japanese noodle dish made with thick handmade noodles, seasonal vegetables, and a rich miso-based broth. In this hands-on cooking class, you'll learn every step of the process, from kneading the dough to cooking and enjoying your own freshly made meal.
What You'll Experience
Your experience begins by washing your hands and changing into a traditional Japanese staff jacket inspired by the uniform worn at Restaurant ROKU, creating an authentic local atmosphere.
Your instructor will introduce the characteristics of Houtou, the ingredients used in the recipe, and the cooking process before guiding you through each step.
You will:
- Mix flour and water
- Knead the dough by hand
- Let the dough rest
- Roll out the dough
- Cut thick handmade noodles
- Cook Houtou with seasonal vegetables and rich miso broth
While Your Houtou Cooks
As your Houtou simmers, your instructor will introduce Fujiyoshida's local culture, recommend hidden gems and popular sightseeing spots, and share travel tips to help you enjoy the Mt. Fuji area even more.
